The zombie apocalypse is coming, are you prepared? We are holing up in our zombie proof bunker this weekend and doing some serious strategizing. We’ll be watching our favorite zombie movies, plus a few we haven’t seen before, and we will definitely be eating these delicious and creepy cupcakes that will not only satisfy our sweet tooth but will also remind us of the very real threat of the dead rising from the grave to try to feast on our brains.

These were really easy to make. I made a batch of chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate icing. I then sprinkled and pressed dyed green coconut shavings onto the top. (I couldn’t find green food coloring, or even blue and yellow, so I had to improvise. I juiced a small bunch of chard and drizzled the bright green juice onto the coconut. Worked perfectly and you couldn’t even taste the chard!) Then I molded zombie hands out of a stick of marzipan and carved a tiny hole in the top of the already frosted cupcake with a knife and popped the hands down in there. Voila! Instant zombie apocalypse!
If you are curious, some of our favorite zombie movies are: Night of the Living Dead (both original and remake), Dawn of the Dead (both original and remake), 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, and Fido.
What are your favorite zombie movies?

AWESOME!!! This mixes my love of marzipan and zombies in the best possible way – with your cupcakes!
When the photos popped up my jaw dropped. Those look awesome! I can't wait to get home for work see them in person (and eat them!) But I think we should have one preserved some how and put on display.
Awesome.
Oh these are AWESOME!! I LOVE them. My favourite zombie movies are Day of the Dead(naturally, Dead Alive, Shaun of the Dead and 28 Weeks Later.
These are GREAT!
Wow these are RAD! I love that they aren't typical halloween cupcakes too. Great idea with the chard coloring. I think you've got something there.

Haha, too cute! And what great timing- I'm going to be posting some Halloween-y cupcakes very soon, too…
I think I like yours better though, to be honest!
"Hands down"

Haha, I love the cupcakes. Very creative idea!
I love the cupcakes! And what a fun sounding weekend! Zombie movies are right up my alley and I will do a fair share of watching some classic this weekend myself while everyone else I know is working!
Love your favorites also, I haven't seen the remake of Night of the Living Dead, but I own both Dawn of the Dead movies, 28 days (and weeks) later, and Shaun of the Dead.
You should definitely check out REC for one of your newer movies; I really enjoyed it.
hahahahahahha
Too freakin' awesome! And so creative (especially with the chard food coloring). I think Cody's comment is funny … lucky guy. He actually gets to eat one.
Love Shaun of the Dead too!
These are so cute!!! They made me laugh, those little zombie hands sticking out of the grassy cupcakes
Excellent.
Juiced chard is much better the food coloring for sure! These are adorable cupcakes! Awesome.

I loved 28 days later! and shaun of the dead, of course! your cupcakes are awesome!
These cupcakes are awesome!! I wasn't sure what they were at first, but now that I know they're cupcakes, that's amazing!
Well, we have the survival guide… now clearly we need to make the cupcakes!
Ha! They are the wickedest cupcakes out!
Those are definitely creepy but also super cute, and I am VERY wowed at the thought of you improvising for green food coloring by juicing swiss chard!!! How clever
Works of art. So creative. Fave zombie movies are any of the Night of the Living Dead movies by Romero and I am Legend.
How cute are these?! Love them. Great variation of a Halloween cupcake.
Hmmm, my fave zombie movies? Well, I just watched the Day of the Dead remake tonight on Showtime but there are better ones..Zombieland was pretty entertaining!!
Awesome looking zombie cupcakes! I love the little hands.
My favourite zombie movie is Shaun of the Dead and I think it's the only one I've ever watched!
I looooooove 28 Days Later. It's the disease movies that *really* scare me. Mmmmmmm, brains….
oh my gosh! These are so freaking cool looking! What kid (/adult) would not love one of these! These remind me of the thriller video
Honestly..these look like they should be on the cover of a mag.. LOVE THEM!!
lOVE THESE! btw, i do visit your blog, i just run out of time to write anything profound. you are really rockin' the MOFO this month sister! i appreciate all of your love and support.

xo jewy
WOW! I am totally in love with these cupcakes.
Those are adorable and fantastic!
these are incredible! at first i thought babies were coming out of them, but then i started reading…
I cannot tell you how much I LOVE these cupcakes! They look superb! I loved 28 Days later, Shaun of the Dead and the TV series Dead Set which – I have to say – was genius!
I don't think I've ever actually seen a zombie movie, but I love these cupcakes! What a great idea to use marzipan for the hands, and I'm very impressed with your use of chard juice for the green dye!
All around awesome!
You should see me laugh right now, I have tears in my eyes. These are so fantastic!
Ahahahaha these are brilliant. I am officially back in the bloggy world
See you Tues
These are seriously brilliant, and you get big points for working "zombie apocalypse" into a recipe title! Clever use of juiced chard to make some green food coloring, and I would call those little zombie hands cute, but that just doesn't seem right for zombie hands
Awesome!
I'm a big Shaun of the Dead fan, btw. And if the Evil Dead movies are zombie movies, those too
I am forever indebted to Dawn of the Dead for introducing me to the musical stylings of Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine.
OH MY GOD! I love love love your zombie cuppers! Do you know that scene in Carrie, at the very end? That's what these remind me of… scary! You are super awesome. One of my favorite mofo posts for sure!
I know I'm a little late, but I love the look of these! Sorry to say I've never watched a zombie movie–I am truly a wimp.
I love these Natasha! Mmmm marzipan…it's been AGES since I've had it. I love that you died the coconut with veggies! (Food coloring has always been difficult to get in Saudi.) I've died wool with veggies before and then felted the wool into neat things like oven mits. Love the creativity!
These cupcakes are so clever! They look so cute.
I’m totally impressed that you molded ZOMBIE HANDS out of MARZIPAN! Please tell me I can a mold for that…. my skills set does not include sculpting! I want to make these for my husband.. he loves zombie movies:p
Thank you! It wasn’t that hard, I did it by hand. If there is a mold for that they sure don’t have them here in Saudi Arabia. Give it a go, it really wasn’t difficult and marzipan is very forgiving.
