Here are some articles I’ve been reading this past week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. And, as always, please leave links to what you’ve been reading in the comments section of this post. And if you’ve written or made something you are proud of, link to that as well!

To me veganism and feminism are inextricably linked. My feminism necessitates my veganism and my veganism necessitates my feminism. To fight for the liberation of all who are oppressed means flying my radical feminist and freaky vegan flag high!
Relating Veganism to Feminism via Vegan Soapbox. This is a pretty good round up of articles discussing the commonality of oppression and the link between women’s rights and animal rights. (This is also where I got the above image!)
Yes, I do think feminists who eat meat and consume dairy are misguided; why do you ask? via I, Bonobo is a short and sweet post on the topic of veganism and feminism. “The whole animal agriculture business is predicated on exploitation of female reproduction. I don’t like it when men have power over female reproduction. It’s not their domain, and they need to fuck the hell off. “ I think that quote sums up the awesomeness pretty well.
From the delightful blog Pride and Vegiduce we’ve got these amazing looking Raw Chocolate Cupcakes. Could they be any more beautiful? They are almost too pretty to eat. Almost.
Defining an Eating Disoder via Choosing Raw. Gena wows me here with her flawless writing and her ability to convey the nitty gritty of a serious topic in such an approachable and down to earth way.
I wish I could have every woman I know read Gena’s article. While I do not mean to devalue the seriousness of severe eating disorders, I think that this article really delves into the grey zone of self-loathing, disgust and obsessive fear of weight gain that many women struggle with, without it constituting a clinical diagnosis for an eating disorder.
I’m sure you are like me and know way too many women who are constantly using words like ‘guilt’, ‘sin’, ‘naughty’, or ‘bad’ to describe food and their relationship to it. Or women who won’t be happy until they achieve the body of a certain celebrity or lose those last 10 pounds. It is absolutely heartbreaking and it angers me because so many powerful, amazing women are spending all of their time and mental energy obsessing over their imaginary physical flaws.
When Weight Loss is the Ultimate Indicator of Success via Venus Vision. This article continues along the same path as Gena’s. It examines the women who have stellar careers, brilliant educations, fantastic friends, and a loving family, but still consider themselves failures if they cannot achieve the perfect body.
Berbere Lentil & Seitan Stew with Injera and Awase from the fabulous Vegan for the People blog. This looks amazing! I love Ethiopian food but very rarely make it at home. That needs to change now because this recipe looks delicious and doable!
Manifest Vegan is one of my favorite blogs but my love was absolutely cemented when I saw these Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle Cookies. I am totally smitten….and hungry!
Here is something from Jezebel to make you cat lovers (Cody, I’m talking to you!) out there chuckle. Who knew kitties were so tough? Interspecies Smackdown: When Cats Attack, Who Wins?
Voracious Vegan Flashback! The best Chicken Fried Seitan ever!

Great links! Ever since I read ‘The Sexual Politics of Meat’ veganism and feminism has been linked in my mind. Fantastic book.
Good stuff!
Yes!!! I am so glad you are bringing (more) light to such an important connection between respect for humans(especially females) and respect for non-humans (again especially females)! You rock. Nuff said.
If any of us are to be free, we ALL have to be free.
I am so honored to be mentioned!
And the veganism/feminism connection is one that is becoming increasingly important to me, and is often ignored. I want to read THE SEXUAL POLITICS OF MEAT so badly! Thanks for mentioning this.
Great links– thank you for sharing! I’ve never thought about Veganism being tied to women’s rights, but it makes so much sense. I’ll have to read further on the topic!
That’s a great group of articles–Choosing Raw’s Eating Disorder one especially. After watching so many of my friends struggle over the years, it’s good to see that more people are aware of the nuances of the disorder.
And chicken friend seitan, hot damn!
Love this, Tasha! You may have already heard about it, but Bitch magazine is bringing on a vegan ecofeminist blogger: http://bitchmagazine.org/post/the-biotic-woman-intro-to-ecofeminism. It looks really promising!
I did NOT know this but thank you for the link! You just made my day.
You do a lot of informative reading…I watch too much silly TV
I did link in my last post an article and video that I wanted to share with readers…so I guess I did one little thing!
Nice post.
That seitan burger looks absolutely amazing!
I hadn’t thought about that connection – thanks for that
And you just reminded me that I need to make your chicken fried seitan!
Ooh get to it! You’ll love it. I haven’t been able to find vital wheat gluten in months and months so I’ve been miserable without my chicken fried seitan. I’ll have to live vicariously through you!
all great links, thanks for sharing! you always have so much variety in the things that you read, i love it! wow that chicken fried seitan looks so fantastic.
Thanks for this post, Tasha! I too enjoyed Gena’s post and I love the links you just gave…Pride and Vegiduce and Manifest Vegan. I didnt know either of those two blogs existed, let alone with loaded with amazing chocolate vegan recipes…wow. Hello more blog surfing, thank you
i’m all about some feminism, veganism, and liberation too, Tasha. ROCK ON! i actually just read “animal liberation and social revolution” just this past week – it blew me away! i can’t believe i’d never read it before. it floored me. i want to read “
sorry – my comment posted early….. picking up….. the sexual politics of meat” – as it talks about meat and feminism and such. i totally agree that feminists who eat animal products are misguided, indeed. i too read Gena’s post on disordered eating – i definitely give too much to my weight and worry too much about it. it really is silly and it’s something that i obsess over a lot. i don’t know why i do it, but i do know that i need to stop and i am working on it, fo ‘sho! i’m going to read the venus vision article too. thank you! man, your chicken-fried seitan looks so gooooooood! i might have to use tempeh and bread it up gluten-free so i can get in on the awesome, too!
So many women struggle with body issues, Jessy. We are all taught that we have to look a certain way or we are worthless. We are also taught that it is possible and within our grasp for us to look that way so if we aren’t trying with all our might all the time then we are lazy failures. It is so ridiculous and hateful. I see it as just another way to disempower women so I fight against it ferociously. Join me in the revolution!
I must read that, it sounds fantastic! Thanks for the fabulous suggestion.
Great links, I love reading articles like these to further strengthen my respect for animals and all life! Thanks.
i’ve got some time off from work today, and now i know i’m going to be happily reading away!
REALLY great links! thanks for the awesome inspiring reads!
It does make a lot of sense that we shouldn’t stand for men to control female reproduction- animal or otherwise! Love reading your opinions.
that chicken fried seitan will be on my mind for days- i must make it!
Oh my! That looks so crispy and delicious! Mmmm!
