Happy International Women’s Day!
I hope you all take some time today to reflect on the struggles and victories made by generations of proud feminists and women’s rights activists before us. Without their sacrifices and determination none of us would be where we are today.
I owe my education to them. I owe my freedom to them. I owe my independence to them. I owe my ability to enjoy my life on my terms to them. I owe my ability to own property to them. I owe my ability to vote to them. I owe my ability to have any job I want to them. Without feminism I could never have this amazing life that I cherish so much.
But the job is nowhere near over. We still have so much work to do and so far to go. To celebrate International Women’s Day and to answer the question Why Feminism? I’ve made this short film. I wanted to explain in a quick and clear way why women’s rights and feminism are still relevant and necessary in this day and age. I hope you like it. (My husband Cody did the music. Isn’t he a genius!?!)
I also wrote a guest post on Choosing Raw about the connections between feminism and veganism. You should definitely check it out and let me know what you think.

Why Feminism?
-featuring music by EGOIST-

Hey there,
Your video was fantastic! I found it really moving..and the music was perfect
I’ve really enjoyed all your writings and such on feminism, so keep up the good work!!
Happy Women’s Day! I often get so hung up on fighting for LGBT rights and animal rights that I forget we still have work to do on women’s rights.
Awesome! I love that you’re featuring more feminist thinking on your blog. Great video, and great music. I’ve joined up to the organisation Object(.org.uk) to help fight for women to be treated as people and not sex objects. Happy Women’s Day!
Whooooo, Tasha! Powerful writeup over at Choosing Raw. Happy International Women’s Day! Keep smashing the patriarchy!
[...] Before I go check out the great (and very different) videos featured on today’s posts from two talented women, the Gluttonous Vegan and the Voracious Vegan. [...]
Thank you for posting this – especially the part about what women (and men) can do. I think sometimes that’s the most unknown part.
it must be so interesting to be a passionate feminist living in saudi arabia!
Hahaha, interesting doesn’t even begin to cover it!
Hi Natasha! I read your entry in ChoosingRaw.com and I really liked how you expressed the link between feminsm and veganism, so i inmediatly hopped over to your blog and saw your amazing video! I hope you don’t mind that i took some parts from it and translated them to spanish to post in my own blog!
Thanks for posting it!
xoxo
Of course I don’t mind – go right ahead! The more people who can hear this information the better! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Informative, inspiring, Well-done sister!
You’re such a rock star! XOXO!
Very cool. I’m an avid feminist! My favorite women’s organization is Women for Women, do you know that one? I love it so much. You get to sponsor a woman and correspond with her over the course of a year. It’s really wonderful. Happy Women’s Day!
wow, that was really a great video! Your facts are compelling. And it is very cool that your husband did the music.
Great post on Gena’s, I loved hearing your thoughts. It is very inspiring, thank you.
Tasha: you are a goddess! What a wonderful thing you’ve done here. Your passion is palpable, always. I am sad that we are STILL struggling with the same senseless violence and prejudice that we’ve been confronting for years. I really appreciate the effort and passion behind everything you do, Tasha. And I loved your essay on the raw site. You are wonderful!
Wow, Marla, thank you SO much! Coming from you that praise means a lot.
Thank you for being a strong voice for women! We should all be as impassioned!
Your post on Choosing Raw is really well done and enlightening. I’m always stunned by how so many social justice issues share such clear and undeniable roots, and I’m left with the frustrating question “why haven’t we figured all of this out already?” Thanks for a great contribution.
Thank you, Mike! I agree with you wholeheartedly. It breaks my heart when I see yet another PETA campaign that objectifies women in the name of animal liberation, or when I see a recipe for some cheese or meat laden dish on a feminist website. The connection is SO CLEAR, I’m hoping more people being to realize that now. Thanks for your comment!
You’re an amazing woman, Tasha and I am so proud and honored to have met you in the ‘sphere and for all our emails and chats. You are just a gem! And lovely post on Gena’s, too
Awww thank you Averie! I feel exactly the same way about you! I’ve learned so much from you, and you’ve definitely made my world a better and happier place. xoxox
I meant to pop in here yesterday and say YOU ROCK! Seriously, this video is so inspiring and the music is amazing and suits it PERFECTLY! I love your article on Choosing Raw! You’re a gem Tasha, I feel inspired every time I read anything you’ve written. Women like you are why I’m proud to call myself a feminist! Keep up the amazing work. xxx
You continue to inspire me everyday! Thanks for making this video, your hard work is helping make the world a better place for everyone.
nice video and apropo to my day. i’m rewriting the art history course i teach and am reshaping quite a bit of it to include the oft-neglected female artists through the past century in American art.
That sounds fascinating, I wish I could take your art history course!
[...] had no idea there even was an International Women’s Day until my friend Tasha posted about it over at The Voracious Vegan. According to this article in the New York Times, the U.S. didn’t [...]
Nicely done! Very powerful! I knew you would be posting something good today for IWD!
Great video and I really enjoyed your guest post on Gena’s site, you’re an amazing writer.
i’m gonna have to check out the video and your guest pos on Gena’s blog, too. thanks, Tasha! we have come a long way, but there’s still lots of work to do, for sure. but i thank all those before us for making it more awesome every day!
I loved your guest post on Gena’s blog and said so in the comments section. A very inspiring and eye-opening account on the cruelties and inequalities we so carelessly dismiss as someone else’s problem. “Surely they can’t exist here at home where we are so progressive and democratic?!?! After all, our women can write, and drive, and wear short sleeves… Not in the land of PETA and cage-free eggs and CSA farms. Right?”
We forget, and should therefore be reminded. I will make sure to remind everyone I know by sending them your link.
Wow, what a great comment! Thank you so much, Mara. That really means a lot to me!
