That gorgeous meal up there is the tasty and filling Matar Tofu Paneer Dahl from the brilliant and always inspiring Bittersweet blog. I was lucky enough to win a nifty TofuXpress from Hannah last year, and this is one of the first dishes I made with it, just as she suggested. Scrumptious!
Let’s hear 3 cheers for tofu!
I love the stuff. It is so versatile, so incredibly healthy for you, and so much fun to cook with – and eat! I use it to make ice cream, stir-frys, fish ‘n’ chips, pies, cakes, pudding, or I prepare it simply in a marinade and bake it in the oven. No matter how it is prepared it is always tasty, and a great addition to any diet.
But…oh yes, there is a but….tofu can be a bit tricky to work with, especially when you want to get it nice and firm for frying, baking, or stir-frys. It is so soft it can fall apart on you. And when it is fresh from the packaging it retains so much of it’s own liquid that it can be hard to impart it with flavor from a marinade or from the cooking process.
Well, luckily for us the good folks over at TofuXpress have found a solution. No more stacking weighted plates onto wobbly slices of tofu and cursing the resulting mess and mush, now there is an easy gadget that gets the job done quickly and efficiently – every time.
After a few hours of pressing in the TofuXpress the brick of tofu is firm and chewy and just ready to suck up all the tasty marinade you can create. The TofuXpress is a product that I use regularly and I really do love.

Ohhhhh I’ve wanted one of these for SO long! I stack a ton of stuff on top of my tofu to press it and wind up with an avalanche every. single. time. I’d love to use this to make veggie fried rice with tofu.
I’ve tweeted this giveaway too!
That looks so delicious, I’m salivating.
I L♡VE T♡FU… but I don’t have the patience (or the seeming requisite skill) to press it before cooking it. This almost turned me off of tofu until I learned about freezing it. So pretty much all my tofu dishes involve tofu that’s been frozen. But sometimes that chewy texture isn’t exactly what I am looking for.
I don’t know what I’d make first, but I’d definitely try my hand at tofu marinades again. I desperately would love to get a marinade right for once. lol
holy tofu! i’ve wanted a press for forever now… and what would i make with it? well, anything tofu. i’d start with this scrumptious paneer recipe in your honor, though.
I love the dense, chewy little bits of tofu at the salad bar at Earth Fare. I would LOVE to be able to make those at home. I’m with Lauren about the inevitable avalanche every time i try to press tofu with stuff. i’m surprised i haven’t broken anything yet …
And, of course, I retweeted you.
Well, there is one main reason I don’t use very much tofu…the pressing issue! The TofuXpress would solve that problem. Would love to win this!
Darn, hard luck that I can’t enter!
The tofu dahl looks awesome! I’m going to wander over to that blog now to check out the recipe.
May I just say, your blog was one of the catalysts that gave me the final reassurance and encouragement to go vegan. It’s my one year vegan anniverary soon and this time last year I was thinking that a love for delicious food was incompatible with being vegan, but your blog showed me otherwise. Thank you x I’m hoping that my blog can start doing the same but with addition of being gluten-free. Anyway, thanks Tasha!

I would love to make vegan ma po tofu
Great giveaway! I am usually super lazy when it comes to properly pressing tofu. This tofu press would make my life so much easier! Since it’s summer I’m thinking I would make some barbecued tofu, yum.
I’d love a tofu press! This matar tofu paneer dahl sounds like a great recipe to make. I also think this would take my standard baked tofu to new levels of chewy tastiness.
Tweeted as well!
I was hoping for one of these from the Husband as a birthday gift…didn’t happen
I hate the stacks of towels to wash and paper towels wasted draining the stuff!! My sis and I love marinated and breaded baked tofu! We pop them like candy!
I would love to make a grilled tofu satay with spicy peanut sauce.
I’ve wanted one of these ever since I became aware of its existence… seems a lot easier than my current towels-and-cookbooks routine! And it would be nice to be able to pan-sear tofu without having it fall apart on me…
<3 <3
Yea!! I LOVE the Tofu Xpress, but it’s too expensive to buy(seriously, it’s about $50 with shipping). I would make vast amounts of tofu bacon. MMMMM
Oh, and I tweeted too!!!
I will use the Tofu Express to keep an endless supply of vegan bacon in my fridge. If i don’t win..I really need to buy one of these. I kept meaning to and now that I’m done traveling for a bit..it’s time.
Of course I’ll be tweeting about this my dear!
Oh, the tofu xpress has been on my wishlist since Hannah’s giveaway. What a cool gadget! Thanks so much for hosting this excellent giveaway. Either way, I’m going to have to make that Matar Tofu Paneer Dahl this week, wow! I have all those ingredients on hand, but for now I’ll be stacking weighted plates on top of my tofu
I would love this! I generally don’t eat tofu much because I can’t get it to taste very flavorful. My number one goal is to create a good stir fry marinade that is just that! Thanks for the great blog!
Tweeted @ordinaryveg
I want one of these SO bad! I would use it for anything and everything tofu. In my mind right now is the tofu stirfry I have planned for dinner tonight… it would be so much better if I had a tofu press. I really hope I win!
I would love to win this–especially for my fiance. He’s recently fallen in love with tofu as a result of my two week bribe-him-to-go-vegan experiment. That said, he loves eating tofu, but always feels he messes it up when he tries to prep it. I feel this would make both our lives so much easier.
I would LOVE to cut down my tofu-pressing time. The recipe that you’ve posted looks like a great place to start!
Tweeted, too!
I would totally use a TofuXpress. Sometimes I don’t even bother to press the tofu before using it because I’m lazy, lol.
Holy jeez, that looks so cool! I’d probably make tofu jerky with it.. oh my god, I can’t imagine how much marinade it would soak up.
Oooh I love tofu! My absolutely favorite thing to do with it right now is Indian baked tofu with a curry marinade. I press my tofu with a towel and a big thick book right now. This would be much more efficient!
I would LOVE a TofuXpress because it would look like less of a hot mess pressing my tofu than the FOUR Pampered Chef baking dishes I currently use!
I tweeted!
I want one of these so I can bake tofu and also use it in stirfry! And congrats on being named one of the Top 10 Vegan Blogs by VegNews Magazine!!
I tweeted!! http://twitter.com/cygirl88/status/18369559944
I would love to try one of these! No matter how much I try and squeeze tofu dry it doesn’t quite cut it! I think it is best in stir-frys!
It would be great to win the TofuXpress because every time I’m pressing tofu my tower of weighted objects inevitably toppes and breaks something nearby
The first thing I’ll make will be a tofu “egg” and Daiya sandwich for my vegetarian mom who doesn’t eat eggs.
I tweeted!
I want one of these so badly. I would make maple grilled tofu and not have to worry about a precarious stack of books.
I want to win the TofuXpress because I eat tofu like no one’s bizznazz and I’ve just gotten lazy to the point of not even pressing it. I want to make some sort of teriyaki tofu
What a great product! I’d love to make some tofu feta for lots of summer salads.
I have been wanted to get one of these. I have never actually pressed tofu because it just seems like too much trouble. I have a recipe for Tofu Marsala that I would love to try this out with.
Congrats on the VegNews news!! You are in my top 10 faves for sure! I really want a tofu press! I used never, ever press tofu because I’m lazy. But lately, since I’m working on the cookbook, I’ve had to start pressing and it really does make a difference. Especially pressing frozen and thawed tofu.
I just tweeted!
Yay for being on of the top blogs mentioned in VegNews! You deserve it!
I have yet to make Paneer Dal, yours looks really good.
The tofu press would definitely come in handy, it’s hard to get rid of all the water from tofu just by pressing down on it with my towels. I also like the idea of using it for ice cream.
Just tweeted!
My husband hates the texture of soft tofu. I would use the TofuXpress to get rid of the water and firm up the tofu. He would love tofu in stirfry, just like I do now……now we have to make two, one with tofu for me(the vegan) and one with meat for him (the omnivore). I love it when I can serve him a meatless meal he loves.
Oooh, I’ve been wanting a tofu press for a while! I don’t have the patience (or the skill) to press my tofu, so I usually just give it a bit of a squeeze and cross my fingers. lol I’d love to make some stir fry with properly pressed tofu.
My boyfriend loves tofu, but being unable to really get all the water out without precarious Eiffel Towers of “pressing” in my kitchen (made more precarious by 2 curious kitties!) has left me unable to satisfy his cravings as much as I would like. I’d love to use the tofu press for stir frys, marinated tofu, and more!
I would love to win the tofu express because I love kitchen gadgets and tofu…put the two together and I am VERY happy
I don’t have a blog or a twitter account, so hopefully this is a lucky entry! Congrats again on the top blog award–you deserve it!
Courtney
I want this gadget so bad!! I hope I win. I waste so many paper towels. It’s so awful of me
I will be entering the other two ways as well.
PS – just found your blog from the VegNews listing. Can’t wait to check it out!!
I am tweeting this very second!
I want to win because I need to find a better way to press my tofu! I would use the tofu in stirfrys and sandwiches!
