  Guess Who Got Lucky!?! »

Matar Tofu Paneer Dahl - and a Giveaway!

That gorgeous meal up there is the tasty and filling Matar Tofu Paneer Dahl from the brilliant and always inspiring Bittersweet blog. I was lucky enough to win a nifty TofuXpress from Hannah last year, and this is one of the first dishes I made with it, just as she suggested. Scrumptious!

Let’s hear 3 cheers for tofu!

I love the stuff. It is so versatile, so incredibly healthy for you, and so much fun to cook with – and eat! I use it to make ice cream, stir-frys, fish ‘n’ chips, pies, cakes, pudding, or I prepare it simply in a marinade and bake it in the oven. No matter how it is prepared it is always tasty, and a great addition to any diet.

But…oh yes, there is a but….tofu can be a bit tricky to work with, especially when you want to get it nice and firm for frying, baking, or stir-frys. It is so soft it can fall apart on you. And when it is fresh from the packaging it retains so much of it’s own liquid that it can be hard to impart it with flavor from a marinade or from the cooking process.

Well, luckily for us the good folks over at TofuXpress have found a solution. No more stacking weighted plates onto wobbly slices of tofu and cursing the resulting mess and mush, now there is an easy gadget that gets the job done quickly and efficiently – every time.

After a few hours of pressing in the TofuXpress the brick of tofu is firm and chewy and just ready to suck up all the tasty marinade you can create. The TofuXpress is a product that I use regularly and I really do love.

TofuXpress!

Before pressing...

After 2 hours of pressing.

Ohhhhh I’ve wanted one of these for SO long! I stack a ton of stuff on top of my tofu to press it and wind up with an avalanche every. single. time. I’d love to use this to make veggie fried rice with tofu.

That looks so delicious, I’m salivating.
I L♡VE T♡FU… but I don’t have the patience (or the seeming requisite skill) to press it before cooking it. This almost turned me off of tofu until I learned about freezing it. So pretty much all my tofu dishes involve tofu that’s been frozen. But sometimes that chewy texture isn’t exactly what I am looking for.
I don’t know what I’d make first, but I’d definitely try my hand at tofu marinades again. I desperately would love to get a marinade right for once. lol

I love the dense, chewy little bits of tofu at the salad bar at Earth Fare. I would LOVE to be able to make those at home. I’m with Lauren about the inevitable avalanche every time i try to press tofu with stuff. i’m surprised i haven’t broken anything yet …

Well, there is one main reason I don’t use very much tofu…the pressing issue! The TofuXpress would solve that problem. Would love to win this!

Darn, hard luck that I can’t enter! :)

The tofu dahl looks awesome! I’m going to wander over to that blog now to check out the recipe.

May I just say, your blog was one of the catalysts that gave me the final reassurance and encouragement to go vegan. It’s my one year vegan anniverary soon and this time last year I was thinking that a love for delicious food was incompatible with being vegan, but your blog showed me otherwise. Thank you x I’m hoping that my blog can start doing the same but with addition of being gluten-free. Anyway, thanks Tasha! :) xxx

Great giveaway! I am usually super lazy when it comes to properly pressing tofu. This tofu press would make my life so much easier! Since it’s summer I’m thinking I would make some barbecued tofu, yum. :)

I’d love a tofu press! This matar tofu paneer dahl sounds like a great recipe to make. I also think this would take my standard baked tofu to new levels of chewy tastiness.

Oh, the tofu xpress has been on my wishlist since Hannah’s giveaway. What a cool gadget! Thanks so much for hosting this excellent giveaway. Either way, I’m going to have to make that Matar Tofu Paneer Dahl this week, wow! I have all those ingredients on hand, but for now I’ll be stacking weighted plates on top of my tofu ;)

I would love this! I generally don’t eat tofu much because I can’t get it to taste very flavorful. My number one goal is to create a good stir fry marinade that is just that! Thanks for the great blog!

I would love to win this–especially for my fiance. He’s recently fallen in love with tofu as a result of my two week bribe-him-to-go-vegan experiment. That said, he loves eating tofu, but always feels he messes it up when he tries to prep it. I feel this would make both our lives so much easier.

Oooh I love tofu! My absolutely favorite thing to do with it right now is Indian baked tofu with a curry marinade. I press my tofu with a towel and a big thick book right now. This would be much more efficient!

It would be great to win the TofuXpress because every time I’m pressing tofu my tower of weighted objects inevitably toppes and breaks something nearby :-(

The first thing I’ll make will be a tofu “egg” and Daiya sandwich for my vegetarian mom who doesn’t eat eggs.

I have yet to make Paneer Dal, yours looks really good.

The tofu press would definitely come in handy, it’s hard to get rid of all the water from tofu just by pressing down on it with my towels. I also like the idea of using it for ice cream.

My husband hates the texture of soft tofu. I would use the TofuXpress to get rid of the water and firm up the tofu. He would love tofu in stirfry, just like I do now……now we have to make two, one with tofu for me(the vegan) and one with meat for him (the omnivore). I love it when I can serve him a meatless meal he loves.

Oooh, I’ve been wanting a tofu press for a while! I don’t have the patience (or the skill) to press my tofu, so I usually just give it a bit of a squeeze and cross my fingers. lol I’d love to make some stir fry with properly pressed tofu.

My boyfriend loves tofu, but being unable to really get all the water out without precarious Eiffel Towers of “pressing” in my kitchen (made more precarious by 2 curious kitties!) has left me unable to satisfy his cravings as much as I would like. I’d love to use the tofu press for stir frys, marinated tofu, and more!
